Juneau, Alaska

We invite you to experience the peace and serenity
of this sacred place of refuge and retreat.

About The Shrine

The Shrine of St. Thérèse is a ministry of the Diocese of Juneau and is located approximately 22 miles north of downtown Juneau. The Shrine has welcomed people of all faiths and all corners of the world for over 75 years.

Mission

Located in an area of exceptional beauty and solitude, the Shrine will be a place of spiritual refuge and retreat for the Diocese of Juneau, other religious groups, and when possible, for other groups utilizing it with reverence and care.

Holy Grounds

The goal of every shrine is to bring the faithful closer to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  You are invited to explore these holy grounds to pray and meditate on the gracious love and goodness of God.

Shrine Chapel

The Shrine Chapel, constructed of Shrine-site beach stone, was built in the late 1930’s. Fr. William LeVasseur, a Jesuit priest from New Brunswick, Canada had the idea and vision to create a retreat center in Alaska. Bishop Joseph Raphael Crimont, S.J., the first bishop of Alaska, gave his consent and blessing to the establishment of the Shrine of St. Therese.

Peaceful Lodging

The Shrine of St. Thérèse offers five rental cabins ranging from the small and rustic Hermitage to the beautifully appointed Little Flower Retreat Cabin. Please see the description below for more information about occupancy limits and availability. We invite you to experience the peace and serenity that can only be experienced by an extended stay at the Shrine.

Spiritual Experiences

The Shrine of St. Thérèse has attracted people from every corner of the world to its doors for over 75 years. Here the People of God can step away from everyday life to bask in the beauty and presence of God.

“The significant meaning of every shrine is to be a reminder in the faith of the salvific work of the Lord.” (The Shrine and the Pilgrimage)

Come and join us as fellow pilgrims.
